Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island, which is known as West Island. People unfamiliar with the term tend to think it's an island that's west of Montreal but in fact this part of West Island is home to all things from Lachine west to the City of Lachine west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was not long. Brugel was raised on Courtice close to Oshawa located in Ontario. In her early years she hoped to become professional performer, however an unexpected growth spurt made it impossible. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." After I outgrew the male dancers, I decided to quit. Brugel was one of many former dancers that turned into acting. The teacher she had at high school encouraged her in the right direction. The teacher recommended that she try out for a school play. The teacher who suggested she pursue a part the school's annual production. It led to her receiving the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a Master of Fine Arts at York University. In the past 20 years, Brugel's work has been seen on both the small and large screen. The most notable was her recognition when she landed her character of Rita in the acclaimed television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel is the sole Canadian on the Season 1 actors of the series and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
